It was nice to hear from Nova Scotia and cape Briton! I plan to go there again soon, primarily to visit Chegoggin. But the shores south of Cape Gabarus are as you already have read a very interesting candidate for Furdustrandir, and the cape itself may possibly be Kjalarnes, "the keel promontory". Mats G L

Nice to hear from someone that lives on Breton Island, and from one so interested in your fascinating local history! There is more than one archaeologist that believes that your island has been visited by “Vikings”. I have told Mats about your letter on our guestbook. If it is ok with you perhaps we can keep in touch; your local knowledge will be of great value for us and the expedition to come. The Vinland projects first stage consists of building a replica of a ship for the expedition. The expedition will not start until our ship is finished. The time to build the ship is hard to calculate, it depends on how many helping hands there will be, but at least three year, probably longer. There will be a building log on our website where you can follow the progress. Håkan

Hello from Gabarus, Nova Scotia, Canada. I found your site while searching for information about the history of my home, Gabarus, on Cape Breton Island, Canada. I was quite excited to learn about Mats G. Larsson's idea that the south coast of Cape Breton could be the Furdustrandir. I have travelled to northern Newfoundland and to Iceland and am quite interested in the viking visits to North America. I am also owner of a sea kayaking company in Gabarus (www.risingtideexpeditions.ca) and am interested in learning about any theories of local exploration and naming from forgotten history - especially the M'ikmaq, Vikings and Basques.
